A look inside our Juneau operations.
About Our Name:
Sitkana was born on the waterways of Southeast Alaska, a region that has long been home to the Tlingit people. The name ‘Sitka’ comes from the Tlingit word ‘Sheet’ká,’ meaning “The People on the Outside of Baranof Island.” Over time, it has come to symbolize the region’s wildlife, seen in species like the Sitka spruce, Sitka black-tailed deer, and even a small sea snail called the Sitka periwinkle (Littorina sitkana).
For generations, the Tlingit people have drawn from nature to create innovative and highly effective designs—one example is the traditional Tlingit Halibut Hook, which selectively catches larger fish while allowing smaller ones to escape, ensuring sustainability. In a similar spirit, our technology is inspired by the natural world—snail shells, schools of salmon, traditional fishing systems, and the unique environment of this magical region.
We chose the name Sitkana to honor these origins and the deep connection between nature, innovation, and the people who have long understood the power of these waters.
